Each year, many of us create our New Year's Vision Boards—visuals of promises we make to ourselves for the upcoming year - aka, New Year's Resolutions!

Whether it's committing to daily meditation or picking up a new skill, the goal is to enhance our lives. But what about improving your skin?

Here I'm sharing 5 skincare resolutions for the new year, from leading dermatologists and scientists that you might want to consider for your 2024 Glow UP

1.

Keep It Simple Sweetie

"The most effective skincare routine is a simple one with carefully chosen active ingredients. I often come across individuals at the clinic who go overboard with masks and peels in their quest for radiant skin. Too many active ingredients, like hydroxy acids and retinol, at various stages in your routine can disrupt the skin barrier, worsen redness, and heighten sensitivities." Dr Thivi Maruthappu

2.

Integrate Quality Vitamin C

Is a Glow Up part of your skincare new year’s resolution? Then you’ll want to add Vitamin C to your daily routine. Known for its brightening and glow-enhancing effects

A potent antioxidant, vitamin C, has the ability to brighten skin while also helping to reduce uneven skin tone and discoloration. This amazing ingredient doesn’t  stop there. Vitamin C also helps support the formation of collagen and elastin, critical building blocks of skin.  Mary Kay Scientists

My top picks are Mary Kay’s  TimeWise Replenishing Serum C+E, a Best Seller touting the Good Housekeeping seal of approval, this powerful serum packs a 1-2 punch!

You get the brightening benefits of Vitamin C and the anti-aging power of Vitamin E, and it layers perfectly under your SPF.  Uhh, yes Please and Thank you!

3.

Don't Forsake Retinoids in your skincare new year’s resolution

By now we all know that retinol is the gold standard in combating the signs of aging, acne, and hyperpigmentation. Yet, it's common to stop using it due to the  potential irritation and redness. Prescription retinoids, like tretinoin, are the most effective, but also the most irritating. Having used tretinoin I can attest to its effectiveness and its irritation, peeling, redness, and skin sensitivity.  I prefer to follow the advice of Board Certified Dermatologist, Alexis Stephens,

"When it comes to retinol, start low and go slow."

The  Mary Kay Clinical Solutions® Retinol 0.5  gives you the benefits of a Derma cosmetic grade retinol without the time and expense of a pricey visit to a Derm Office.  Its' 8-week guided retinization process  helps gets your skin used to retinol, leading to less irritation. And it includes the support of a Certified Skincare Consultant reading to address any concerns..

4.

Eat for Your Skin

The festive indulgences, our skin may appear dull and fatigued. Boost your antioxidant intake by consuming vibrant fruits and vegetables, working in the deeper layers to shield collagen from UV light and environmental damage. Remember, the darker the color of your fruits and vegetables, the richer they are in antioxidants."

Additionally,  Dr Thivi Maruthappu advises to “focus on good fats—oily fish like salmon provides omega-3 and protein. For those following a vegan or vegetarian lifestyle, consider cashew nuts, flaxseed oil, and supplementing with daily algae omega-3. Hydration is crucial for glowing skin; you can enhance the taste of water with cucumber, lemon, or mint."

5.

Consistency is Key

Our skin thrives on consistency. While it may be tempting to switch products frequently, establishing a routine that works is invaluable. Cleanse twice daily; if you wear makeup, double cleanse with micellar water or a balm cleanser. Follow with vitamin C and SPF in the morning, and consider a retinol and moisturizer at night.

If you're anything like me, it seems like I'm always short on time. So I appreciate "two-fers" - products that address multiple things in one step. Like the TimeWise Repair® Volu-Firm® Day Cream Sunscreen Broad Spectrum SPF 30 and TimeWise Repair® Volu-Firm® Night Treatment With Retinol. The day cream combines spf with moisturizer and the night cream combines retinol with a night moisturizer. And Viole! 4 steps have become 2. My kinda skincare routine!

Additional products can be introduced based on your skin's specific needs—;like the Award Winning PHA + AHA  Loved by Beauty Editors for its gentle yet effective exfoliation and eliminating dullness and rough skin texture, This, hands down, is the BEST exfoliator my sensitive skin has ever used! Pair it with Niacinamide to address pigmentation."
