Dry chapped lips tops my lists of skin care pet peeves. Nothing annoys me more than chaffed lips. It's uncomfortable, not a good look, and it ruins your lipstick application! As winter unfolds its chilly embrace, our skin, especially our delicate lips, tends to bear the brunt of the cold weather. Today on The Beat I'm breaking down the importance of lip care during the winter months and sharing how Satin Lips by Mary Kay can transform your lip care routine for winter.
The Importance of a Lip Care Routine for Winter Dry Lips:
Proper lip care during winter is essential to maintain soft, supple lips. Neglecting your lips can lead to discomfort, pain, and even bleeding in some cases.
To combat winter lip challenges, it's crucial to have a lip care routine in your arsenal at the ready, that includes exfoliation, hydration, and protection.
Mary Kay's Satin Lips is a game-changer, especially during the dry winter months. Packed with nourishing ingredients, this product is designed to exfoliate, moisturize, and protect your lips, leaving
them irresistibly soft and smooth.
1
Take it OFF
Begin with Exfoliation:
Prepare your lips for hydration. Gently massage the Satin Lips exfoliating mask onto your lips to slough away dry, flaky skin.
Both the White Tea and Citrus Satin Lips® Shea Sugar Scrub and White Tea & Citrus Satin Lips® Shea Butter Balm are formulated with shea butter. Used for centuries to protect, enrich and soften skin, shea butter is known to contain omega-3s. Omega-3s help maintain the skin's natural moisture barrier. And when the skin's barrier is protected, precious moisture is less likely to escape.

Listen to your Lips
Use non-irritating lip balm, lipstick, and other products that you apply to your lips.
Many people mistake discomfort, such as burning, stinging, or tingling, as a sign that the products are working. But that’s not what’s happening. You’re actually irritating your lips, so start by stop using any product that irritates your lips.
Avoid theses Ingredients while your lips are chapped: To help chapped lips heal, stop applying lip products that contain any of the following:
Camphor
Eucalyptus
Flavoring: Cinnamon, citrus, mint, and peppermint flavors can be especially irritating to dry, chapped lips
Fragrance
Lanolin
Menthol
Octinoxate or oxybenzone
Phenol (or phenyl)
Propyl gallate
Salicylic acid
Ingredients that can help heal chapped lips: While some ingredients can irritate dry, cracked lips, others can help them heal. When looking for products to use on chapped lips, dermatologists recommend ones that contain one or more of the following:
Castor seed oil
Ceramides
Dimethicone
Hemp seed oil
Mineral oil
Petrolatum
Shea butter
Sun-protective ingredients, such as titanium oxide or zinc oxide
White petroleum jelly
If your lips burn, sting, or feel uncomfortable when you apply a product to your lips, it means you’re irritating your lips, so you want to stop using that product.

Sleep on It
Apply a lip balm (or lip moisturizer) several times a day and before bed

It is my ultimate must-have, used faithfully every day, morning and night, wherever I go. It's in every corner of my life - bathrooms, bedside, kitchen, office, car, handbag, and even my daughter's book bag. I'm obsessed with it, and I'm not alone – even Steve Harvey agrees! #SatinLipsObsession
Apply the moisturizing balm generously to keep your lips hydrated and nourished."The moisturizing component of Satin Lips is enriched with shea butter and jojoba oil, providing intense hydration to combat winter dryness. These ingredients work together to lock in moisture, leaving your lips feeling luscious and supple.

Slather it On before going outdoors
Satin Lips doesn't just stop at exfoliation and hydration; it also forms a protective barrier against harsh winter elements. This shield helps prevent further moisture loss, ensuring your lips stay soft and beautiful throughout the day, Make Satin Lips a part of your daily routine, especially before heading outdoors, to protect your lips from the winter elements
5
Drink plenty of water
Chapped lips are dry lips, so you want to stay hydrated. I drink water throughout the day
and I also keep a water carafe bedside so that when I wake up feeling dry and/or thirsty, I can easily take a sip.
Lip licking can be a hard habit to break. When you catch yourself licking your lips, try applying a non-irritating lip balm instead.
6
Break the Cycle
Stop licking, biting, and picking at your lips. When lips feel dry, it may feel natural to wet them by licking them, but this can worsen the problem. As saliva evaporates, your lips become drier
7
Make it Mist
Plug in a humidifier at home. A humidifier in your bedroom can be especially helpful, especially if you breathe through your mouth at night or if you have allergies like me and/or have issues with the forced air. Again, that water carafe comes in handy!
FYI… There’s a difference between chapped lips and lips that have broken skin aka cracked. If the skin is broken, cracked, or bleeding, you should not exfoliate until the skin is healed, However, you can use a lip balm to help aide in the healing process
When to see a Dermatologist?
By following these tips for chapped lips, you should see noticeable improvement in 2 to 3 weeks. To prevent your lips from chapping again, continue applying lip balm whenever it’s dry indoors or outside.
Most of the time, the above self-care can heal dry, chapped lips in 2 to 3 weeks. If it doesn’t, it may be time to see a dermatologist.
